  2. My friend is renewing her vows in September and all the close friends decided to help prepare part of the wedding, instead of wedding gifts, my part is the wedding cake. What a good friend you are...this could be a lot of fun for you with a little creativity. Yes, there are stores that have kits, pans, pillars, etc...Michael's has all of the above and then some. I'm sure they carry Wilton's cake supplies as well as other brands. However, it could be a little expensive to buy all these things if you go all out. For instance, if you are planning to make a tiered cake with space in between the layers you'll need cardboard rounds or plastic plates, piers to elevate the layers, etc... Instead of pillars you could use stemmed champagne or wine glasses. Whatever you decide to do I'm sure it will be beautiful. One word of caution...if you're planning to transport a multi level cake it's best to assemble it when you get there and add the finishing touches after you assemble the layers. There are many reputable jewelers who will be happy to explain the different qualities of a diamond. Choose a jeweler that has been in the area for a long time and has an established business reputation. I can personally recommend either Guzzetta Fine Jewelers or Kenny G Jewelers. Both Nick Guzzetta and Kenny Gordon have excellent reputations for honesty and integrity in their business practices, and their customer service is always excellent. Good luck and congratulations on your pending engagement!  [less]

In theory, since this is a "destination" wedding, everyone will be coming from out-of-town. It's not practical to invite everyone, so it may be better to keep the rehearsal dinner as it is intended to be; for the bridal party and those involved in the wedding.   [less]
  6. I'm getting married soon and started to become a little overwhelmed with all of the smaller details of the event. Is it absolutely necessary to have a seating chart? If so why, and what is the easiest way to go about making one? Thank you. - Jen from Sacramento, CA

No, it is not absolutely necessary to have assigned seating, however, depending on the number of guests it may, in the long run, be easier. If you just have a small number of guests you may want to reserve from 2 to 4 tables for the immediate family members of the bride and an equal number for the grooms family. Then you can let the rest of the guests sit where they feel most comfortable, and with whom they are friends. If your wedding is a more formal event then you will want to have a seating chart. This will avoid having your guests wander around wondering where they are supposed to sit. You and your Fiancé will need to do this together, as each of you should know if there are any personality conflicts between your respective family members and/or friends. Seating charts will vary depending on table configuration and the number to be seated at each table. You may need to enlist the help of a calligraphist to accomplish this task in an elegant and simple way.
