  1. I have a 2002 Saturn SL1. My fan blower works intermittenly. The A/C compressor works fine, as does the heat. Is this a loose connection, or is the blower motor itself going out. Is this something I can change out myself, or is this a specialty item? - Don from Orangevale Ca

Hi Don, We have encountered issues with both the Blower motor and the connections at the blower motor on these vehicles. This is a fairly easy blower motor to replace but I would highly recommend getting it checked out to determine the actual fault.  [less]

If your S-10 was leaning out the plugs would usually be a white color. It sounds more like you might have a restricted exhaust. The Catalytic converter is usually what becomes restricted. Another possible answer would be that your clutch is slipping. I would recommend having it check out. If we can help contact us at 916-315-0555.  [less]

Hello Jose, It would be very difficult to tell you what that noise might be without hearing it first and determining where it is coming from. My suggestion to you would be to return to the dealer as this vehicle should be completely under warranty and they would diagnose and repair it at no charge. Most Manufacture warranties are minimal 3 years or 30000 miles.  [less]

Hi Stanley, I would recommend bringing the vehicle in for a FREE brake inspection. The cost can vary anywhere from $350.00 on up on that vehicle depending on how much of the brake system needs repair. The only way to give you an accurate estimate is to inspect it first. I have a '99 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4.A short time ago my ABS and brake warning lamps came on.I noticed that when moving from a stop the speedo needle stays at zero untill 25 mph is reached then the needle jumps to that speed. When slowing to a stop,at 25 mph the needle falls to zero. All brake components incl.the brake fluid are in very good cond.Seems odd to me that if the speedo or sender were defective they would operate at all.All fuses are good.Any ideas? - Ron from Sacramento,CA

Hi Ron, Without an ABS service code it is difficult to Diagnose. From our experience the Output Shaft Sensor is usually the problem. There are two sensors in the transmission, one is the vehicle speed sensor and the other is Output Shaft Sensor. I would highly suggest taking the vehicle in for Diagnosis instead of just replacing parts as that can get very expensive.  [less]
  7. I have a 1991 Mazda mx-6 GT turbo a/t I replaced the alternator in it and it gets hot to the touch could this be caused by the voltage regulator and where is the voltage regulator located, I have looked in a couple different auto repair guides and can't find it in either. - Roy Fassel from Loomis CA

Hi Roy, When an Alternator gets to hot it is usally because it is working to hard. The most common cause of an overheating Alternator is a bad battery or anything that would make it work to hard such as bad connections or shorts. I believe the regulator on that alternator is internal which means you replaced it when you changed the Alternator. I would start by testing the battery and checking how many amps the Alt. is putting out at idle. There is always a chance that the Alt. you just installed is defective.  [less]
  8. I have a 1997 GMC Safari van and the smog check cert. is long past due. I have been putting it off because the check engine light is on and has been on for a long time and I want to find out why the light came on, resolve the problem, and clear the light before taking the van in for a smog cert. I have a digital car reader that I want to use. The instructions state to plug the car reader into the vans test connector. I cannot find where the van's test connector is located. Can you tell me where the test connector is located on the 1997 GMC Safari Vans? Also, I have heard that by disconnecting the negative end of the car battery, loosening the gas cap, and turn the ingnition key over once, it would turn the check engine light off. Is there any truth to that? - tammylvc from Sacramento, CA

Hello, On your 1997 GMC Safari Van the Assembly Line Data Link Connector is located under the dash about were your left knee would be when you are sitting in the Driver's Seat. The Code you obtain with scanner will give you general idea of what is wrong with the vehicle but usally you will need to do some diagnostics to find the actual problem. By disconnecting the battery on your vehicle the C/E light will go out (temporarly) but the problem with that is all of your vehicle monitors will be cleared which is a SMOG failure also. By the time you run all of the monitors necessary to pass smog your light will most likely be back on. I do not recommend disconnecting the battery as you will most likely cause more problems than you have now. If you are unable to sove this on your own we do Smog diagnostics and repairs at our shop. 9. I have a 2003 Chevy Impala with 155k miles on it. This has happened twice now exactly one week apart, when I try to start it the dash lights come on but nothing else happens. The engine doesn't try to turn over, and there are no sounds at all. I've tried to jump it, and that doesn't work, but if it sits for about an hour it will start. My check engine light is on and I had that checked after the first time this happened and the dealer told me I need a new transmission and thermostat. Would that really be causing the car not to start? What might be causing this? - Sabrina from Lockeford, CA

I don't believe the transmission or the thermostat have anything to do with your car not turning over. I would imagine that when they checked the codes because the check engine light was on they must have found something relating to the transmission and thermostat. This still does not mean they are bad or need replacement. I would be more inclined to think you have a problem with your starter or ignition switch. I would recommend getting a second opinion if the dealer is telling you that you need a transmission and a thermostat to fix a no crank condition.  [less]
  10. I have a 1989 Jeep Cheroke Sport with the 4.0L inline 6 cylinder engine & 4 wheel drive. Here's my question, there is a vacuum line coming from the front axle, but the other end is no longer connected, to whatever its supposed to be connected to. I have to smog the vehicle, but it won't pass a visual inspection with a vacuum line disconnected. Where does this from the front axle go to? - Matt from Sacramento, CA

Hi Matt, The tube coming off your front axle is a vent tube. The axle needs to be vented, the reason they hook a tube to it is that 4X4 vehicles may find there axle under water or in deep mud and they put this tube on there to keep water from getting into the vent or mud from plugging it up. The Tube does not go to any connections it is usally open and mounted on the fire wall somewhere to keep the open end high enough as to not get water in it. This will not cause a smog failure.  [less]
